Coach Mike Van Iderstine

I have coached Danika for 2 years in a club environment. She is a great multisport athlete, juggling playing high level ice hockey and field hockey. She has shown great dedication to furthering her technical skills while increasing her hockey IQ and game sense. Danika is highly intelligent, resulting her to be very coachable, eager to learn and allows her to integrate within a team culture. She is a strong defender, and outside midfielder that can be relied on to play positions she normally doesn’t play to support the team when required. She is determined to increase the level of her technical skills, specifically her passing and dribbling skill set. She has great ball speed, specifically with her sweep and snap pass.

Danika is fast and has a competent tackling skill set with a block and jab tackle being able to stop an attacking unit. She has good control trapping and intercepting all types of passes directed to her, as well as developing her dynamic open and closed receiving skills.

Tactically Danika understands her role as a defender/outside midfielder in different pressing and outletting systems, while she also has good M2M marking. She learns attack, defense and in transition principals of play and is quick to adapt her style of play to the team’s needs. I believe Danika would be a strong asset to a NCAA or U SPORTS university field hockey program, particularly one with rigours academic expectations and demands. I have no doubt she will contribute positively to your programs culture, university academics, and on field performance.
